BEST AFRICAN PERFORMANCE AWARD: GRAMMY AWARDS ADD NEW CATEGORY TO INCLUDE GHANA’S HIGHLIFE, ASAKAA & AFROPOP GENRES!

Grammy now recognizes Ghana and Africa by giving them a new category called Best African Performance. This is a follow-up action from the C. E.O. of the awards Havey Masan Jr. after he visited Ghana for the Guba Awards last year 2022. He officially met some of the Ghanaian artists to discuss with them potential category slots and ways of winning the awards. This new category, Best African Music Performance is dedicated to Afrobeats and African music which includes Ghana drill(asakaa), This groundbreaking announcement has given hope to most African artists to win this award.

The initiative to represent African music more accurately was sparked during Harvey Manson Jr.’s, the CEO of the Recording Academy, official visit to Ghana in 2022. Manson reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to providing an authentic representation of the diverse musical landscape of the continent.

According to the academy, the 2024 Grammy Awards will feature three eagerly anticipated new categories, with the most highly anticipated being “Best African Music Performance.” This category will celebrate exceptional recordings that showcase unique local expressions from across Africa.

So as an artist, you should make music aimed at expressing melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic traditions that vary across the continent. Make it encompasses a wide range of genres, including Afrobeat, Afro-fusion, Afro-Pop, Afrobeats, Alte, Amapiano, Bongo Flava, Genge, Kizomba, Chimurenga, High Life, Fuji, Kwassa, Ndombolo, Mapouka, Ghanaian Drill, Afro-House, South African Hip-Hop, and Ethio Jazz.
